2013 GVWG CalendarOnce more my wood art has graced the GVWG's 2013 calendar. How I Started January 2010, my neighbor showed me four pens he had made during a one day pen turning class. I was hooked. I didn't own a lathe so I made my first 25 pens on my husband's machinists lathe, and at the same time, ordered a Jet 1014 which arrived May 12, 2010; then made 40 more pens on my new little Jet lathe. I enjoyed turning so much that I decided to take early retirement (in August 2010) to devote more time toward this hobby. September 2010, I joined the GVWG, and the FVWG, the following month. These were probably the best decisions I could possibly have made to launch my woodturning hobby. I also became a member of the AAW in January 2011. Commencing October 1, 2010, and in an all-too-short 10-month period, I registered for almost every Turning 101 class offered (6 of 8), attended both club's monthly meetings, tried to meet their monthly challenges, registered for the GVWG's 2010 Symposium, and raced around the lower mainland collecting free wood from felled trees. A very exciting time! During this time I also met a whole new breed of people, Woodturners. To date, probably 300 or more, and realized, woodturners are the friendliest and most genuine people who love to share their knowledge. I'm also slowly realizing that this hobby doesn't stop at woodturning. I find myself delving into pyrography, air brushing, photography, piercing, colours, and more I'm not aware of, yet. I even managed to set up my own website, which, to this day I still find mind boggling. I even tried my hand at Editor for the GVWG. That was fun. I am really looking forward to my second year to see what else will turn up. Please browse through my photo galleries to see how my wood turned art and I have developed since October 1, 2010.
